Social Assistance - Ontario Works

Mandate

The Social Services Department administers the Ontario Works program.

The goal of the Ontario Works program is to help people in temporary need to find sustainable employment and achieve self-sufficiency by providing effective integrated employment services and financial assistance.

Adults who receive financial assistance under the Ontario Works program must participate in approved employment assistance activities to be eligible for assistance. Relevant documentation regarding participation restrictions or temporary deferral must be provided and placed on file.

The amount of financial assistance you may receive under the Ontario works program depends on the following factors:

  • the size of your family,
  • your income,
  • your assets,
  • your accommodation costs.
