On March 26, 2025, MPP Stéphane Sarrazin had the honor of presenting five King Charles III Coronation Medals during the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Council meeting. These prestigious awards recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their community and embody the values of service and dedication highlighted during the coronation of King Charles III.
Francis Drouin, Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, also presented King Charles III Coronation Medals to dedicated community members. One of these medals was presented to Mr. Yves Laviolette, Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, during the ceremony.
The recipients, selected for their leadership, volunteer commitment, and dedication to the well-being of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Ontario, and Canada, are:
- Denis Vaillancourt: After over 40 years of service in education, Mr. Vaillancourt has held several leadership positions, including Director of Education in the Francophone school system and Assistant Deputy Minister of Education. He has also chaired important organizations like Centraide East Ontario and served on the French language Health Services Advisory Council. He has received numerous honors, including the Order of Francophonie of Prescott and Russell and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
- Bruno Lecot: A retired teacher and school principal, Mr. Lecot has always emphasized his love for the French language, both with his students and staff. He played a key role in organizing the 2011 International Plowing Match in Chute-à-Blondeau and fundraising for the Francophone Monument in Hawkesbury. He was inducted into the Order of Francophonie of Prescott- Russell in 2016 in recognition of his commitment to Francophonie.
- James Douglas Anthony: A former member of the RCMP, James had a distinguished 37-year career, holding leadership roles such as Director of Media Relations and Inspector on the Grievance Advisory Board. Since retiring in 2019, he has continued to serve his community as President of the Russell Kin Club and as a communications specialist and trainer.
- Stéphan Plourde: A former member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Mr. Plourde played a key role in health services training and deployments such as the NATO training mission in Afghanistan. He is currently the Executive Director of Mayerville Management Consulting Services and continues to contribute to the healthcare sector, notably as a board member for Ontario’s Home and Community Care Support Services. His leadership and community commitment are exceptional.
- Robert Kirby: Mayor of East Hawkesbury since 2007, Mr. Kirby led the organization of the 2011 International Plowing Match in his municipality and was a key figure in bringing natural gas to the area. He has also served three terms as President of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, demonstrating his dedication to regional development and community service. In 2011, he was honored with the Order of Francophonie for his contributions to the Francophone community.
The ceremony, attended by local dignitaries, municipal leaders, and community members, was a moment of recognition highlighting the tireless efforts of these dedicated citizens. "These recipients are a shining example of what it means to serve one's community with dedication and passion. Their actions have had a direct and positive impact on our region, and it is an honor to celebrate them today," said MPP Sarrazin.
The ceremony, held at the CUPR Council Chambers, was a moment of recognition and gratitude, underscoring the tireless efforts of these dedicated citizens who make Glengarry-Prescott-Russell a better place to live.
