Daniel Lafleur, 2022 Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), was recognized by his colleagues, his family, and members of the community during the 2022 Warden’s Banquet held yesterday evening at the J.R. Brisson Complex in Casselman.
In a packed room, this annual charity event brought together 208 guests to celebrate Mr. Lafleur's accomplishments during his year as Warden. Among them were Mr. Stéphane Sarrazin, MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, former and current Members of the UCPR Council, several elected officials from the Eastern Ontario region, as well as various community representatives from Prescott and Russell.
For the eighth consecutive year, the outstanding contributions of UCPR residents were celebrated with the JP St. Pierre Award. This year’s award was presented to Mr. Robert and Mrs. Louise Deguire in recognition of their community involvement over the past 25 years. Jocelyn St. Pierre, the widow of former Mayor St. Pierre, who passed away prematurely in 2014, was on hand to present this prestigious municipal award to the couple.
The Warden’s Award, a staple of the event, is presented annually to a municipal employee in recognition of their hard work and outstanding contribution and professionalism to the community of Prescott and Russell and to their colleagues. This year, Warden Lafleur presented this high distinction to Ms. Marie-Claude Lafleur, UCPR’s Health & Safety Program Administrator.
During the evening, the Members of the UCPR Council paid a touching tribute to Mr. Marc Clermont, Public Works Director, who passed away last September following a long illness. Stéphane P. Parisien, UCPR Chief Administrative Officer, highlighted Mr. Clermont’s contribution to the region during his 27-year career with the UCPR.
Funds raised at the Warden’s Banquet as well as the Warden’s Golf Tournament held earlier in June will be distributed to local non-profit organizations at the Inauguration Ceremony for the next Warden, which will take place in L'Orignal on Wednesday, November 23rd.
