How to attend a virtual court proceeding
- Only attend on the date and time on your notice. If you do not have a set date and time, your case will be not be heard.
- To connect to the court proceeding, you need a phone or a device capable of connecting to the internet.
- You must enter the Zoom information as specified above.
- If you do not have access to a personal telephone or a computer, you may:
- use a payphone and dial the toll-free number 1-855-703-8985 to connect to the virtual courtroom and follow the prompts to enter the Meeting ID indicated above; or
- contact the Provincial Offences Office prior to your appearance at 613-675-4661, toll free at 1-800-667-6307 or [email protected].
What to expect during a virtual court proceeding
- You will be connected to the virtual courtroom, but you may have to wait a few minutes before being admitted into the virtual courtroom as there may be multiple matters scheduled at once.
- Please be patient and wait for your matter to be called. While waiting for your turn, please mute yourself (press *6 or use the mute option on your phone or in Zoom).
- When your name is called, unmute yourself and identify yourself for the record by stating your name.
- If you are appearing as an Agent, you must state your name, by spelling your last name, and indicate for whom you are appearing.
- Refer to the Justice of the Peace as "Your Worship".
- Remain muted when you are not speaking to avoid unnecessary noises.
- If you have any technical difficulties:
- disconnect from the court proceeding and immediately try to reconnect; or
- contact 613-675-4661 or toll free at 1-800-667-6307.
- Once your matter has been completed, you will be excused by the Justice of the Peace and you will be able to leave the court proceeding.
MEDIA AND PUBLIC
Court proceedings are open to the public, subject to some exceptions. Media and the public can attend court proceedings virtually or in person using the information above titled "In-Person Court Proceedings" or "Virtual Court Proceedings (Zoom)".
