Message from Warden Robert Kirby

François St-Amour

As Council Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, I am very honoured to represent the County and on behalf of all members of Council, and I invite you to browse our website and learn more about our beautiful region.

Over the course of my mandate, my priority is to ensure that Council speaks together and works together with a strong and united voice, and that the transition between the former and the new council is seamless.

I also plan to ensure a continuity of certain regional projects and advocacy from the past year, including the widening of County Road 17, the expansion of natural gas into rural sectors, the construction of the new Prescott and Russell Residence, and resolving the dispatch of emergency services into neighbouring municipalities.

The ongoing challenge for each of our municipalities brings different strengths and priorities. We must exercise good leadership and build on our common interests to allow our region to shine and continue to be a favourable place to live, work and having fun. It is a privilege for me to take on this role, for a third time, at the head of our Council, which must continue to work together, from a regional perspective, to move forward with a united voice and to advance the priorities of Prescott and Russell, and all of Eastern Ontario.

Robert Kirby
2019 Warden

How the Council Works

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell are made up of 8 lower-tier municipalities. The Mayor of each municipality sits on the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Council and acts on behalf of the municipality in Counties affairs. Council also elects a Warden on an annual basis. As the Head of Counties Council, the Warden conducts the Council meetings, sits on committees, and represents the Counties at any meetings or official functions.

Council meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the council Chambers of the County Building at 59 Court Street in L’Orignal.
